Urgent Need!

Who are you?

My name is Sara Annette Murrell. I was born May 3, 1989 to Barry and Sharon Murrell in Cebu City, Philippines. My parents have been missionaries in Cebu City since 1980. My grandparents, Ken and Margie Wilkey, were also missionaries in the Philippines from 1962-1973. Even today my grandfather makes trips between the US and the Philippines teaching the brethren all over the country. In 2007 I completed my high school education by taking the GED examination in Texas and decided that I wanted to follow in the footsteps of my parents and grandparents and raised funds to return with my parents to the Philippines to work with them. From September 2007 to March 2009 I underwent an apprenticeship under my parents. All the experiences I have had and the things I have been able to do have made me decide that this is what I want to do with the rest of my life. I have completed two tours, from 2009-2011 and 2011-2013, working with my family, my team, in Cebu City. I plan, Lord willing, to continue this important work for as long as possible, however I need YOUR help! My next tour is scheduled for July 2011 through September 2013.

Are you qualified?

I believe that I am a great asset to the work here in the Philippines. I was born and raised in Cebu City, where our work is based. I speak the native language of the people living in Cebu. I know the culture of the Filipinos we work with. I know the leaders of the congregations of the Lord's church here in the city and they know me. I practically grew up in the Bible Study Center (abbreviated BSC), our primary method of evangelism. The Bible Study Center is an office where we hold classes for people who are interested in studying God's word. Since September of 2006 I have helped work on course materials, distributed flyers, worked with students, taught classes, and even renovated classrooms. I am a translator and teacher of Biblical Greek and have even made translations of New Testament passages for our course materials. I have had extensive experience with the Bible, both Old and New Testaments. I have been an instrument of God in the conversion of four people: Jessie Calde (March 7, 2008), Hope and Trisha de los Angeles (December 12, 2008), Jovel Clark Contratista (December 13, 2008), Mickeevinth Singcol (September 8, 2010), and Jesus Almadin (. I am part of a family team of missionaries who have been in Cebu City, Philippines since 1980.

What will you do?

This is my second tour working as a full time missionary and member of the staff of the BSC in Cebu City, Philippines. I will continue working with our team to accomplish our goals as stated by our work plan. Click here to see our team's mission strategy for this coming tour. We will be focusing our work, once again, on the Bible Study Center and the residential areas nearby. My focus for Tour 3: 2011-2013 will be the following:

  • To continue teaching courses at the Bible Study Center
  • To continue working with the Uptown and Southside congregations
  • To continue teaching children through our Saturday Children's Bible Class Program
  • To continue working with our youth in the Friday Night Youth Fellowship
  • To continue working with our Bible Correspondence Course
  • To help train in our Apprenticeship Program
  • To continue working with our Online Bible Classes

Our work is comprised of different programs.

Bible Study Center Program --- We opened the Bible Study Center in its current location in 2006. Classes are held in the evenings for anyone interested in studying God’s word. We have two study programs, our Non-member program and our Member program. Non-member courses are taught with an aim of teaching people God’s message and the truth of the Gospel. Member courses are book studies, language courses, and courses about topics like the family. These courses are for people who have already been immersed. I will be active in the advertising and teaching of these courses to the population in Cebu City.

Bible Correspondence Program --- Our Bible correspondence course is designed to give people who are just too busy for an evening class schedule a chance to study the Bible. We have our two main courses; Jesus: Man of the Bible and Jesus: Lord of Our Lives, in correspondence course format. In addition we have been working to revise our older courses and have added Archaeology and the Bible,Bible Geography 1 & 2, and How We Got the Bible to our Bible Correspondence Course. We hope to expand it even further this tour.

Saturday Kid’s Class Program --- We have a weekly Bible class for the children living around the area of the BSC. We believe strongly in Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go, And even when he is old he will not depart from it.” I have been a major part of the planning and teaching on Saturdays and plan to continue to be.

Youth Program --- We have a weekly youth fellowship on Friday for the young people in both the Southside and Uptown congregations to spend time together outside of the assembly. We have games, watch movies and have Bible studies.

Southside Congregation --- When we opened the BSC in its new location, we did it with the intention of starting a congregation, and a congregation we did start. The Southside congregation was started by the combined efforts of our team in 2006. The Southside congregation has around 30 members. On the first and third Sundays of the month we have a combined service with the Uptown congregation. This congregation was started in 1996 by my parents and fellow missionaries Marvin and Josie Whitt, Vicky Glaisyer and Becky and Richard Emperado. On the second and fourth Sundays the Southside congregation meets in the bottom floor of the KP and Harang Academy. We will continue our work with the Southside congregation this coming tour.

Apprenticeship Training Program --- We have two apprentices, RJ Mate and Ronnie Feller, who are undergoing training. I will be working to help continue their training.

Matthew 9:37 “Therefore Jesus said to his disciples; on the one hand the harvest is great, but the workers are few;”

Online BSC Study Program --- We have been working on putting our course materials on the internet to increase availability. As soon as we complete our work, anyone from anywhere on the globe can study with us! We are excited about this new branch in our ministry! We already have our course Jesus: Man of the Bible online and are planning to continue adding our other courses.
